Discover Dogs, November 2011

Once again Discover Dogs at Earl's Court was a busy place bustling with people looking for the type of dog that would suit them, their home and their lifestyle. The BGV stand was busy from the word go. It is becoming a tradition that children climb in the booth and get as close to the dogs a possible and the dogs make the most of it by trying to get as much attention and cuddles as possible. The dogs behaved impeccably (as always) and a big "thank you" goes to all owners and helpers who gave up their weekend to promote the breeds and encourage people to think carefully about the type of dog they buy.

BGV Health Survey 2012

The BGV Club of the UK as well as the PBGVCA of the USA are conducting a survey. This survey is for both the Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen and the Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen breeds and is open to all owners of these breeds whether Club members or not. Other European countries are also involved. The object of the survey is to try and establish the current health of the breeds. This will help determine whether any health problems need researching and help forward planning for funding. It is important that owners of perfectly health dogs respond as well as those that do have health issues, to combat recent adverse publicity concerning pedigree dogs. The results of the survey will be presented at the BGV World Congress to be held in November 2012, and subsequently available on the BGV Club website. Specific details of owners and their BGV’s will not be published.

For more information about the survey, please Click Here

The BGV Club Health Survey 2012 is available to fill in on-line by clicking Here

Whether you have a Petit or a Grand, or in fact both, please take the time to fill in the survey

As published in the March 2011 Kennel Gazette, the Kennel Club have confirmed its revision of

the BGV (Petit) Breed Standard as follows:

Head and Skull Head carried proudly. Skull of moderate length, slightly domed, not too wide, oval when viewed from above. Well cut away under eyes. Occiput moderately well developed. Stop clearly defined. Muzzle square, length from nose to stop slightly less than from stop to occiput. Underjaw strong and well developed. Nose black, large and prominent, with wide nostrils. Lips covered with long hair forming beard and moustache.

Update to Kennel Club Code of Ethics

The Kennel Club have advised that the following amendment has been made to Clause 2 of the Kennel Club Code of Ethics:

'Will agree without reservation that any veterinary surgeon who performs an operation on any of their dogs which alters the natural conformation of the animal, or who carries out a caesarean section on a bitch, may report such operations to the Kennel Club.'

BGV CLUB EMBROIDERED TABLECLOTH

Have your PBGV / GBGV affix embroidered onto our commemorative tablecloth

Proceeds from this will be donated to the Joan Wells Meacham Health Fund

At BGV Club events you may have seen the BGV Club embroidered tablecloths which have PBGV and GBGV affixes from the past and present embroidered onto them. It is a number of years since these tablecloths were made and whilst we use these tablecloths at BGV Club events, we would like to produce another tablecloth to be used alongside these at BGV Club Events. Should you wish to have your affix embroidered onto a BGV Club tablecloth then please contact maudaxibgv@tiscali.co.uk to organise this. A charge of £15 per affix will be made with proceeds being donated to the Joan Wells Meacham Health Fund, space is limited and affixes will be placed on the tablecloth on a first come first served basis.

Should you have any news or information that you would like to be considered for The BGV Club Website,

then please e-mail bgvclubwebmaster@gmail.com
